What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is the huge variety of amazing people I meet and interact with every day; from the generous givers of time, skills and money to my fantastic, dedicated team to the inspiring families we work with who with a small leg up are working their own way out of poverty. It is an incredible privilege to be both inspired and humbled every day.
If you could give one piece of advice to yourself at the start of your career what would it be?
To get good training, skills and a network in what you want to do before you set up what you want to do!
What is an act of kindness that you will remember forever?
When I studied in Oxford, my handbag was grabbed from the handlebars of my bike one evening when I was cycling home. It had everything in it and I thought I would never see it again. I had become friends with “Roger”, a homeless man, over the three years. He recognised my bag, somehow got it back and delivered it to my college porter for me………it had absolutely everything in it. I will never forget it. He had hardly anything yet went out of his way to get my bag back and returned it with everything.
What is your favourite quote?
I love Mother Teresa’s quote: We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do.
If you could invite two people to dinner (dead or alive!) who would they be and why?
Mother Teresa because she was part of the reason for setting up Shivia. My Dad because he always makes me laugh.
