What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job has been building my team and supporting them as we grow. I feel we have built a truly unique company culture where inclusion is at the core of our cultural makeup. We all work towards the same goals and enjoy the process. In addition, I thoroughly enjoy closing deals with music industry rightsholders that have never been done before, it makes me feel proud to know we are making a positive change in our industry. I feel so lucky to be spending every day doing what I love.
If you could give one piece of advice to yourself at the start of your career what would it be?
Be more careful with who you choose to work with and spend your personal time with. You need to create a supportive network who can help you through all of the ups and downs, mentor you, educate you and help you thrive.
“Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future.” Mark Ambrose
What is one act of kindness that you will remember forever?
In June 2019, my partner and I were in Germany showcasing our Wheelchair Partner Stunt routine and supporting the first ever ParaCheer Freestyle Pom team (Nordish Dance Project), at their National Competition. It was the first time a disability inclusive Freestyle Pom team were performing at the National Championships. They did an outstanding performance but as the ParaCheer division wasn’t yet recognised in Germany, the team only showcased and therefore did not receive any medals.
When the awards were announced for the competitive divisions, the winners of the Freestyle Pom division (not inclusive of disabled athletes) walked over to Nordish Dance Project and gave away their gold medals.
This selfless act of kindness recognised the hard work the athletes had put in to get to where they were. It celebrated inclusion and highlighted that we all deserve to be treated equally.
What is your favourite quote?
Slightly edited to be gender-neutral “A person convinced against their will, is of the same opinion still’.
It is debatable where this quote came from but it is something my mum used to say as I was growing up and it is so true. If you are trying to change someone's mind or opinion on something you need to use creative strategies and avoid directly arguing your point.
If you could invite two people to dinner (dead or alive!) who would they be and why?
I would invite:
Michelle Obama - I really want to meet her. She is an incredible advocate for women and I’d love to hear more about her time as America’s First Lady. There’s so much I’d want to pick her brains on!
Richard Branson - He started his record label at a young age so part of my connection there is because of music but if his autobiographies are anything to go by, I know he’d have some seriously interesting stories to share.
