Positive psychology and reconciling your traumas is as vital to success as job skills, contacts and experience. Don’t underestimate how powerful healing and self-belief are to your journey, especially if you were raised in a limiting, patriarchal environment.

My high school teacher, Curry Leslie, once a high-flying television producer who worked with internationally known names, putting aside an entire school day to talk to me about the problems I was having at home. That day changed the course of my life by acknowledging my truth, giving me both a career and life mentor and arming me with the skills to fight my corner.

Comedienne Lilly Singh and Chef Asma Khan because, well what’s better than great food and great laughs? Lilly has been making me laugh for more than a decade and it’s absolutely thrilling to see her hosting mainstream network TV in the US. It shows how far the US has come in terms of authentic mainstream representation. And Asma Khan because she is also clearly warm, funny, irreverent and authentic, but also because on this side of the Atlantic, Asma has redefined both representation and corporate practice. I can’t think of anything I’d love more than to laugh with women who share my journey and to be inspired by their own creativity, perseverance and success.
