What is the best part of your job?
I get to work on products used by billions of people globally, and help businesses access secure and sustainable technology for a better future. Knowing that I can play a role (no matter how small) in making the world a better place, is what gives me joy.
If you could give one piece of advice to yourself at the start of your career, what would it be?
Trust the journey. I’ve always been a planner and wanted to shape every step of my career and life. However, I have realised that things can take unexpected turns - failure, disappointment, uncertainty are all part of the process and it’s best to embrace them. So I would go back and tell my younger self to chill, enjoy the journey and have faith that I’m headed to a great place and everything does work out in the end.
What is one act of kindness that you will remember forever?
For me, my parents embody kindness and selflessness. I learnt what having a kind heart means by watching them live their lives. But if I’m picking one act of kindness, it would be something my first manager did for me. When I was a fresh graduate starting my first internship on a very low stipend, she fought to ensure the company covered my train travel costs (which was very expensive) from Coventry to London every day to come into work. I am truly grateful for that act of kindness which in many ways led to where I am today.
What is your favourite quote?
“Be a rainbow in somebody else's cloud” by Maya Angelou. This again goes back to kindness and how even small, little thoughtful actions can make a huge difference to people’s days and lives. I try to live by this every day.
If you could invite two people to dinner (dead or alive!) who would they be and why?
Anthony Bourdain and my grandfather (who has now passed). They’re both the biggest foodies I can think of with a zest for life and wicked sense of humour. Dinner would be at a street food stall, and I would enjoy the show!
