I learn something new everyday. As a journalist, I often find myself being thrown into the deep end when news breaks and I love that it gives me the opportunity to learn new things and develop new skills everyday.
I also love my job because of the people around me. I am so lucky to be surrounded by very talented and very kind people and that makes this journey even more worthwhile.

Build strong networks and lean into those networks. At the start of my career, I would often shy away from going to networking events and realized the power of networks much later in my career.

This was back in 2016. A group of us worked through the night to cover the Brexit vote and results. Next morning, we were tired, exhausted and hungry but the news flow wasn’t getting any slower. I was just starting to think about getting some coffee and breakfast when I saw the Senior Vice President of the company making his way through the newsroom with a pen and paper in his hand. He went to each desk and took everyone’s coffee and breakfast orders, went out to get them and then brought them to our desks. I was beyond impressed and so touched by this act of kindness. It showed his empathy as a leader and gave everyone in the newsroom another big push to keep going.

It is one from Mahatma Gandhi. “Learn as if you will live forever, live like you will die tomorrow.”
I have always enjoyed learning new things and now having to do that as part of my job is like a dream come true.
Another one that I absolutely love and use quite regularly: “Never lose the fire in your belly”
I am a dreamer and a big one at that. I strongly believe you are the driver of your own career and having that fire in your belly helps you chase your dreams and drags you out of the bed every morning.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Jacinda Ardern - both very strong women in their own right. Both women with a range of experience about the world and seen the world through various lenses - as a woman, as a leader, as a mother and above all as extremely empathetic humans. In a world where the norm is to fit the mould, I would be very keen to hear how these women fought their way to the top and the challenges they faced. Sounds like an insightful evening so I will make sure there is enough wine!
