What is the best part of your job?
The best part of any job for me is the people and the culture. If you’re surrounded by brilliant people who can challenge, motivate, and inspire you you’re onto a winner.
If you could give one piece of advice to yourself at the start of your career what would it be?
I don’t think this just applies to my career, but pretty much every facet of my life – listen to what people say, but make the decision that’s best for you.
What is one act of kindness that you will remember forever?
My parents have always been immeasurably kind to me – that unexpected type of kindness that can take your breath away by the level of understanding, empathy, and compassion it displays. My parents have done this a multitude of times for me, and it’s undoubtedly the foundation and basis for my own personal investment in kindness.
What is your favourite quote?
I’m not sure who said it, but it always helps me overcome self-doubt: “What if I fall? Oh but my darling, what if you fly?”. I have this printed out and framed at home, also one from Abraham Lincoln: ‘The best way to predict the future is to create it.’ I’m fond of the notion of being the master of your own destiny.
If you could invite two people to dinner (dead or alive!) who would they be and why?
I’d struggle with two, but the people that came to me in the shower this morning when I was thinking about this are – American politician and activist, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex (there’s a brilliant documentary that details her rise to power on Netflix called ‘Knock Down the House’) and Mexican artist Frida Kahlo for the boldness she displayed in illustrating her pain and passion, I hugely admire that.
