What is the best part of your job?
Making a difference to other human beings who have no voice and are trapped in situations beyond what most of us could imagine with no one to turn to because of their invisibility. I find the hidden areas within our communities and I challenge the status quo in how we respond as a Society to do more to prevent harm and support those coming through their traumatic situations.
If you could give one piece of advice to yourself at the start of your career what would it be?
Trust yourself. I have been following my inner voice throughout my career and it has always protected me, supported me and encouraged me to follow my ambitions even when doubts and other obstacles were challenging me. Only you know what your limits are and see through your fears.
What is an act of kindness that you will remember forever?
Being told I belong in my community. Many negative factors are attached to my nationality and gender but being told that I am just as important as the rest of my community meant that I was respected and acknowledged for who I am and what I stand for. Being a woman and from a different country is something that for many years I felt I had to defend when prejudice was shown by complete strangers and I felt that no matter what I did, I was still being judged or denied opportunities that I worked hard for.
What is your favourite quote?

If you could invite two people to dinner (dead or alive!) who would they be and why?
My mother and the former First Lady Michelle Obama. I lost my mother when I was 12 years old and I would love to know what her thoughts are on who I have grown up to be but from what I remember of her, she would be incredibly proud of me.

I would also love the opportunity to meet the former First Lady Michelle Obama as she has been an inspiration and a positive influence to the way I live my life and the way I approach the causes I believe in and support.
